UVX™ Expeditionary Water Unit (EWU) > Maintenance

EWU Maintenance

The UVX™ Expeditionary Water Unit does not require consumable filters. Rather, it is designed to operate for 10,000 hours without replacing a major component.

4-Hour Required Service

The system strainer should be cleaned every four hours. To clean the strainer, simply twist the housing to remove it. Rinse it out. Then, twist it back into place. The four hour cleaning requirement is intended for worst case situations.

250-Hour or 6-Week Required Service

The solenoid valve should be opened and cleaned at least every 250 hours of operation or every six weeks, whichever comes first. It may need cleaning more frequently if the water source is especially filthy.

1,000-Hour Required Service

The system should be cleaned with an ammonia solution every 1,000 hours of operation. In our field trials, such cleaning solution has been readily available in every country where we installed units. The cleaning solution is typically used to clean coffee pots.

If the system is maintained by soaking overnight with a cleaner every 1,000 hours of operation, then the fouling should not occur because the system sleeve is covered with a polymeric coating that has been tested for 1,900KL (500,000 gal.) under terrible water conditions.

Eventually, parts will be available for purchase directly from our website. Parts should typically arrive within 2 weeks. We can ship almost anywhere in the world in as little as 3 days; however, we have never had a single part fail ever in any of our units. The most common parts to fail would be the lamps, which should last at least 4 years. They currently cost about $250 each.

Notes:

*The unit comes with a comprehensive instruction manual that addresses almost any issue. For further support, email us at support@uvxwater.com

*Be sure to remove the power supply before maintaining the unit.

*The World Health Organization recommends testing source and output water quality every six months. A simple way to test for output water quality is a combination of (A) the total coliform presence absence test and (B) the E. coli presence absence test. These tests can be administered through a local test laboratory using the IDEXX Colilert and Collisure tests. In the field, the Simpltek water test has proven effective: See www.simpltek.com
